Another Reason Why Rx is Awesome

Umm yeah…if your gym had a mascot this adorable, you'd be addicted too! Haha he's the Grinch for the Christmas potluck they're having tonight! I wish I could be at the Christmas party right now, but I'm working….boooo :( Little Foot is clearly my favorite workout buddy!!

Red Hot Apple Pie In a Mug

This is one of my FAVORITE dessert recipes! It's SO delicious, and only 135 calories! YUM!

1 medium Fuji apple, cored and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
12 - 15 pieces Red Hots Cinnamon Flavored Candy
1/2 sheet (2 crackers) low-fat cinnamon graham crackers
2 tbsp Fat Free Reddi-Whip
Dash of cinnamon

Put apple cubes in a microwavable cup or mug. Top with Red Hots (the more you use, the hotter your pie in a mug will be)! Cover and microwave for 1 minute. Stir well. Re-cover and microwave for an additional 1 - 2 minutes, until apple cubes are soft.

Meanwhile, place graham crackers in a plastic bag and thoroughly crush through the bag; set aside.

Once cup or mug is cool enough to handle, mix contents well. Allow to cool for about 10 minutes (if you can resist eating it!).

Top with most of the crushed graham crackers followed by the whipped topping.

Sprinkle with cinnamon and remaining crushed grahams!

Getting Back in the Game

I have been SO eager to get back to the gym! Both my doctors and my trainer recommended that I take a little time to rest up and give my body a little time to get adjusted to the pain meds, which I agree was probably a smart suggestion... I was overjoyed to get the approval from my coach to get to hit the gym on Wednesday (16th) and he customized an awesome upper body and ab workout for me! I was definitely sore the next day, but it felt awesome to get back into a semi-normal routine!

Beginning the Healing Process

I definitely haven't been following the doctor's orders of 2 weeks total bed rest. When I went in yesterday for my follow-up appointment, the doctors seemed very pleased with how everything was healing! Woohoo! I had to get X-rays taken and finally got my hard cast! I go in for another check-up in 2 weeks.

Slight Set-Back

Okay….so it's more than a "slight" set-back. I shattered my foot at the gym last Friday and am completely non-weight bearing for 8 weeks. I was lifting a 250 pound tire (yes, I've done this successfully multiple times) and stepped back to get more leverage, and completely slipped…resulting in the massive tire smashing my whole left foot…loudest. snap. of. my. life.
Unfortunately, this is going to push back my estimated competition time a few months, but I'm not going to let it discourage me too much! I have taken this week off from the gym (only because my doctor and trainer basically threatened me if I attempted to work out during this first week), but I fully intend to get back to work next week with intense upper body workouts to stay somewhat on track!

Oh yeah, did I mention that it was my BIRTHDAY weekend, and that I ended up having surgery on my actual birthday?! Talk about a memorable 20th b-day….

Birthday Workouts Rock

After this experience, I'm definitely anxious to see what Jeff has in store for my birthday coming up on the 7th! It usually involves some clever play on words mixed with some of the birthdayee's favorite exercises!

Workout #1

Getting adjusted to this kind of high-intensity workout took a few classes and some very descriptive instructions from my trainer Jeff, but I can finally get through the hour and feel like I succeeded!!

RX Strength Training

So interval strength training is new to me. It's similar to cross-fit, but more tailored for each individual person. It's very intense, but produces amazing results for what seems like way less grueling work than going to a normal gym every day for 2 hours! Currently, I do strength training classes 3 times a week for an hour each time. The workouts are always different and constantly push my limits, so I don't get bored! I've been taking classes for 3 weeks now, and am absolutely ADDICTED! I wish I had some "before" pictures in these same poses before I started working out at all, but at least these give a good indication of how I looked at the very start of strength training.

New Goals

I like to set goals for myself as a way to stay motivated and track my progress. One of my first goals was just to stop over eating, and now I'm able to balance eating healthy while also indulging in a craving every once in awhile! Life isn't fun unless you get to have cake right?! Anyway, my next goal is to have defined abs that I'm proud of by January 1st! I still fully intend to have my coffee flavored ice cream cake for my birthday and eat it too! YUM! :) All of my hard work is propelling me toward my ultimate goal of competing (and doing well) in natural fitness competitions! I'm shooting to be ready to enter my first competition in March!!
