On the Hunt

I'm looking into entering into the New England Fitness Weekend on November 8 since they have a bikini competition that I feel I will be ready for at that point. Even if I'm not physically prepared enough to win, it will still be awesome to gain the experience and get a better feel for the industry. Plus, it'll be a blast! I hope to eventually get to the level to compete in the fitness model competition, but I realize that'll take a little longer to achieve. Check it out, and let me know if their are any competitions that you know of for beginners!

Gruesome Bruising

Since I've made some progress and am now able to do several new exercises that put a minimal amount of weight on my foot, I've rediscovered one of my old problems with sand bag workouts…the excessive bruising that I somehow can't figure out how to avoid. UGH! It's such an awesome workout that provides great results, but it's almost not worth it if I look like I've been ran over by a truck! It doesn't hurt at all, but just looks terrible. I get them on my chest too, so I guess I'll have to start wearing a sweatshirt when I plan to use the sandbags. Any other suggestions?

Spicy Baked Onion Rings

Why waste 600 calories on deep fried onion rings when you can make them yourself for 180 for a fairly big serving?! Exactly. You shouldn't. I also like that I was able to customize the seasoning for my personal taste preferences! SPICY!! The serving size for this recipe is ½ an onion (12 rings) for 183 calories! Not only were they healthy, but they were also absolutely delicious and super flavorful!

Next time, I would use Egg Substitute rather than egg whites to help the dry ingredients adhere better.
Also, I would use yellow onion rather than red since they seem to be meatier. They came out pretty crispy (still delicious though)!

Ingredients:
-About 6 baked tortilla chips
-½ cup low calorie cereal flakes or Fiber One original cereal
-½ cup egg substitute
-2 tbs hot sauce
-2 tbs taco seasoning
-½ yellow onion cut into ½ inch rings
-Whatever assortment of spices you want

Directions:
-Preheat oven to 375 degrees
-Coat cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray
-In a small bowl, mix egg substitute and hot sauce
-Put all dry ingredients and spices in blender and grind until it's a breadcrumb-like consistency
-Transfer dry ingredients to a plate
-Begin by dipping your rings in the egg substitute and then coating it in the dry ingredients
-Place all rings on your coated cookie sheet and place in preheated oven
-Cook for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through
-Enjoy the deliciousness!!!

My First STANDING Workout Today

I was incredibly proud of myself since I was able to FINALLY do standing kettle bell movements today!  Considering that I just got my boot on Friday, I made sure to take it easy and only did a few standing exercises mixed with some of my typical sitting exercises that I've gotten accustomed to over the past several weeks.

The Pageant Prep Paid Off

Julianna (my gym bestie) competed in the Miss Boston/Cambridge America system pageant this weekend and did REALLY well for it being her first time competing in the America system! She BY FAR had the best swimsuit bod…but duh…she worked her butt off (literally) every day at Rx with Jeff, and the hard work DEFINITELY showed by how defined and toned she was in comparison to the other contestants. I jumped at the opportunity to show off my always-improving abs in the cut out black and white dress! It's such an awesome feeling to have a body I'm proud of, and that's certainly what keeps me motivated to push even harder and get to competition level!

I'm in love with everything about this picture. Jena and Jeff (and Little Foot of course) are such awesome motivators and are so supportive of my competition and personal training ambitions! I also love that Carrie is in it, considering that I owe my involvement in Rx to her and Julianna! I love when I get to work out with them both! We clean up nice huh?

My Quest Obsession

I cannot even describe my love for Quest bars. They're so amazing in every way and although I've made some pretty similar protein bar recipes, they still aren't as amazing as the real thing! The new flavor, Cookies 'n Cream is SO AMAZING that it's probably dangerous that I just bought an entire box…I honestly think of them more as a dessert rather than a snack bar! Apple Pie and Double Chocolate Chunk are my other favorites. They're even more delicious if you microwave them for a few seconds (7 to be exact).

Cast Change

This better be the last cast change!!! I'm psyched to be getting my boot on Valentine's Day…as long as my x-rays come back showing I'm healing adequately! Do you know how excited I am to be able to walk on 2 legs again?!?! I just hate how nasty and emaciated my leg is going to be for the first few weeks until I'm able to get some strength built back up...

It was so scaly and gross! No wonder it's been so itchy!

Boot Camp

I love when I'm able to participate in the group workouts! I didn't get to do the whole workout this session, but I got to do the intense military-style finisher, which I loved! Here are a few short clips from the full-body finisher!

The Constant Struggle

I am currently working on gaining weight, but I want to do it in a healthy way, so I don't end up feeling sluggish and gross. I have a constant mental battle over eating, because of the unhealthy eating habits I've developed over the past 2 years. I'm struggling to overcome the constant thoughts of how I haven't "earned"  eating as much as I need to even maintain my weight. I feel like once you get into a certain diet routine (whether it be excessive over-eating or under-eating) it's nearly impossible to make a quick turnaround to get the results you want. I mean, I acknowledge that getting down to 89 pounds is absolutely disgusting, yet I'm unable to stop restricting my calories for fear that I will do a complete 180 and be unable to stop gaining weight…it's ridiculous, I know. I completely understand the constant struggle that health-conscious people endure. I've been doing pretty good over the past 2 weeks since I've been back in Boston, but I still obsess over my calories and portion-size, which is absurd considering how conscientious I am about my body and how much I exercise! Now, I use MyFitnessPal more so to ensure that I eat enough calories throughout the day, rather than to make sure I don't exceed my allotment like I used to monitor. I am making slight progress, but it's definitely an arduous process. This constant internal struggle is an every day reminder of how passionate I am about helping other people overcome this disorder and help them get a body that they're not only proud of, but that is also healthy!

This was me about 2 weeks ago at 89 pounds, and when I realized that I absolutely had to change something before I ended up in the hospital.

Pink, Pink and More PINK!

My bestie, Julianna got me this adorable lightweight pullover to match my cast! It actually fits and I'm in LOVE! Everyone who knows me knows how much I love clothes and accessorizing, so why stop just because I'm broken? Haha

Beginning My Personal Training Journey

I don't think I've ever been so excited or driven to do anything in my life as much as I am right now to get my personal training certification through ACSM!! I've already taken my CPR/AED class, ordered my books, started researching, formed a timeline and bought studying supplies to prepare for my test (which I hope to have taken before I return to cosmetology school in June)!! I'm literally SO ecstatic, and would REALLY appreciate your feedback, suggestions and encouraging words to keep me going! :)
This was during my CPR/AED class. It was with a bunch of old construction guys….haha I guess that's what I get for taking it in Missouri! ;)
