Florida Adventure

I had a lot of fun in Daytona, and certainly didn't want to leave the 90 degree sunny weather for this dreary raininess that I came back to! I was pretty proud of my beach body that I've been working on for the past several months, although, I can certainly tell how beneficial kettle bell work is to maintaining definition! My abs definitely weren't as visible toward the end of the week as they were when I first arrived! Man, I certainly missed my 16kg kettle bell baby :) and I can't wait to get back into the "swing" of things! hehe I was ecstatic to discover that there was a gym in our building, and I went every day but one! I tried to convince my friends to go with me, but they kept using the excuse "it's vacation…" Okay? If anything, that only motivated me further! I wanted to look my best on the beach!! I only wish that I could have taken full advantage of the early-morning beauty by running along the beach, but it'll be awhile before my foot will allow me such freedom… I'm at work right now, and didn't get into Boston until 2am this morning due to delays, so I am deliriously exhausted right now. It also doesn't help that its depressingly raining and cold outside here! UGH!
I was actually pretty productive and got quite a bit of studying done during the trip!
This was the first day we were there (as you can tell by my obscene whiteness) haha I missed this lovely lady!
Was this the night we went to the strip club..maybe not ;) haha
This is my bonita that I caught while we were deep sea fishing! It doesn't look that big, but I seriously thought it was going to pull me overboard!
I was super excited to find that the building had a gym, and it was a bonus that I had a beautiful view of the ocean! I couldn't warrant taking a whole week off from working out just because it was "vacation..."
I may have gotten a little bit fried…I literally couldn't sit for 2 days :(

We played bocce ball on the beach! One cripple-friendly activity we were able to partake in ;)

This was the last night at dinner. I'm at least a little tanner right?!
On the flight back last night, I made a buddy on the plane and we watched "Frozen" together! She was such a little cutie, and I could tell that her mom greatly appreciated me entertaining her for a few hours!

Foot Update

So Dr. Riemer called me yesterday and said that it was an "unusual finding" on my x-ray. He couldn't exactly tell if the first metatarsal was just stressed, or if a stress fracture had actually developed. Yes, I said FIRST metatarsal…a completely different area from where was previously broken. HOW AM I SO ACCIDENT-PRONE?! His recommendation was to "take it easy" for the next 2 months to ensure that it heals properly and that I don't cause a new full-blown fracture. I suppose I can do that considering how devastated I was upon learning I may have to be put back in a hard cast…so much for running that 5K on the 31st… I'm very excited that I don't have to continue wearing the walking boot, although the constant swelling and bruising does concern me. I guess I'll just ice it and rest it as much as possible while hoping for the best! Any other recommendations would be greatly welcomed!! Maybe amputation??!?! ;)

Never Ending

If you've been around me during any of this awful process, then you know how I've jokingly discussed amputation….I'm only halfway kidding now. On Friday, when I went in to the doctor for my final check-up before being released, I assumed I would get a call this week sometime telling me how thoroughly everything was healing, and that I was cleared to resume my normal activities…in addition to physical therapy of course. Unfortunately, this was NOT the news I received when I got the call on Tuesday to discuss the results. My doctor is out of the country for the next two weeks, but his temp doctor reviewed my x-rays, and it seems that I've somehow managed to develop another stress fracture. This was absolutely devastating news, as you can imagine after being SO CLOSE to finally being recovered!!! UGGGHHHHH!!! The demanded that I immediately go back in the walking boot until I'm able to meet with my doctor on the 30th to discuss what further action we plan to take. I'm also upset because I just started a new full-time job at a car dealership, and obviously need to have the ability to walk to be successful…. Why does the world hate me??

Flourless Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

My brother made oatmeal raisin cookies last night, and they were SO GOOD. Not healthy in the least though, so I was inspired to come up with an equally as delicious recipe that's actually good for you! Why ruin the healthiness of raisins and oatmeal with a bunch of unnecessary sugar and flour?! My recipe should make 6 cookies and each cookie is right at 39 calories (if you're able to actually make them all the same size!) haha

Ingredients:

-3/4 cup rolled oats
-1/4 tsp baking soda
-Pinch of salt
-2 tbs brown sugar
-1 tbs baking sugar substitute
-2 tbs raisins
-2 tbs almond milk
-1 tbs melted butter substitute

Directions:

-Preheat oven to 375 degrees
-Mix all dry ingredients in a blender
-Pour into a bowl and combine with wet ingredients
-Form into 6 balls and place on cookie sheet
-Bake for 6-7 minutes

Nutrition and Food Sciences

On Monday, I drove to Milton to take a college placement test at Laboure College, so that I'll be able to start back to school (online) in the fall. Apparently the 3-part test typically takes students around 3 hours to complete, and I was done in an hour! I was so nervous, but my results came back immediately, and they said I did exceptionally well and that they'd be in contact with me soon to move on to the next step toward enrollment. I AM SO EXCITED! Now, I just hope they accept all of my pertinent gen-eds that I've already taken, so that I don't have to retake anything I already have covered. Regardless, I'm very eager to get started on this journey, and I finally feel like I've found my niche in life! I know that I have the passion necessary to be successful in this industry, and am always eager for the opportunity to train new body types and hear someone's personal story or journey toward a more healthy lifestyle, so PLEASE be interactive and reach out to me!

Training Session

So far, the training sessions with Cynthia seem to be going really well, and I'm certainly learning a lot about customizing workouts for different ability levels! She's getting impressively skilled with the kettle bell, and I'm getting practice at explaining the proper form and movements associated with all the equipment. I plan to keep training and building up my clientele so that once I'm certified, I'll already have a dedicated following built up! That way, I can focus on school and train for extra money on the side.
